About
Lauren Elzbi is an American artist and author, born in New York City. She has been active since the mid 1990's as an early prominent member of the groundbreaking Madagascar Institute Collective and is currently active with the Bacon Bits Collective. Her work, predominantly in illustrative watercolor, silkscreen and oil paint, spans nearly three decades and is characterized by the delicate and nuanced betrayal of emotion, often in simple form. According to Elzbi, she "seeks to devolve complicated emotions; jealousy, ambivalence, acquiescence and melancholy into their most basic constituents, instilling each with great importance." Although her work has demonstrated progressively softer lines there remains a clear link to her early printmaking, with prominence of hard edge, outline and contrast still apparent.
She is also the author and illustrator of the Ché Chihuahua series of children's stories.
Elzbi’s artwork is self represented. Her literary work is Supported by Plucky Duck Publishing. She is currently welcoming new offers of collaboration.
Lauren lives and works in New York City and Madrid.
